Now It's Official: Huxiu English

Huxiu English has been officially launched.

Literally, this is the English-language incarnation of Huxiu—a Huxiu producing good contents in English. The mode of the English version is more or less the same as that of the Chinese version. Huxiu is a platform open to all contributors as always. So if you have good content, just send it to us. We also welcome all kinds of cooperation.

You may wonder, is it pretentious to launch an English site? Not really. A pretentious appearance is an illusion. Real merits come from the minds and pens (or keyboards) of every civilised person. In the light of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, hopefully, Huxiu English will inspire its readers, which seems like a good thing.

Judging from a year's trial run, the main audience of Huxiu English has been technology journalists and editors at foreign media, oversea venture capital firms, consultancies and some business academic research institutions. Of course, besides them, there are also fund managers tracking China concepts stocks, traders as well as web crawlers. Among them, except web crawlers, our editors have tried their best to meet online and offline to seek feedback. Exchanges of ideas and communication brought about more ideas. Huxiu will try to achieve them step by step in future.

In terms of the product, we have carried on the simple and straight-forward style of the Chinese version, adding some ingredients of foreign media. Though the login and register pages of the English version are in English, you will find you can log in with your account at the Chinese site. Please note that currently account credits are not shared but separate.

The English version may not yet be able to guarantee its daily update frequency for now. This is why we have also provided an entry for direct email subscription. Subscribe to it and you will get information worth your attention regularly.

With the vision of a product set, we hope to make it simple and straight-forward. For now we only quietly offer some contents that hold value. You may want to share it with your friends in one click only. What about the future? We are firm on our direction; we will march on step by step.

In terms of the articles posted on Huxiu English, though most readers are located outside of the Great Firewall, their concerns are all that are happening inside the Great Firewall—only those who are inside the Wall are able to tell clearly what happens inside the Wall. From your correspondent's perspective, an ideal English version of a Chinese technology media should offer not only reports on Chinese technology firms, analyses on trends, thoughts at the macro level, but probably also interpretation of Chinese culture as well as elements of humanities. What is going on on this soil? What are the industrious people working for? Where are they heading? What difference are they making to the world?

At the end of the day, in this age of new media, hype and playing innocent, fights and scandals, are noise. Huxiu, as media, as a recorder as well as an observer, should contribute things that endure.
